E-Learning For Life

Fostering a professional learning community in Qatar and beyond

I have been reading Kim Cofino's blog, always learning, lately. She works at an international school in Bangkok. Her job title is 21st Century Literacy Specialist - interesting. Sounds like someone I would like to know. Anyway she mentioned in her blog that she is looking "to find classroom partners that are willing to connect with us on a regular basis over the course of the entire school year (Sept 08 - June 09)".

I thought perhaps there might be a teacher at QF that would be interested. It sounds like her school is really trying to advance their use of technology and are quite successful at it.

Sam,

Thanks, it would be great to get out and meet new people. I find doing this very difficult in Doha, so I will prob take you up on the offer. I could always give you a tour of CNA - we have a lot more in common than you'd prob think. :)

Hey Rebecca,

If you would ever like to come over and visit at Qatar Academy, we'd love to have you over.
Likewise, we'd love to come out to CNA to see what's happening down the road.

It's nice to see like minded people getting together - regardless of the distance.

Hmmm... actually I am just a few kilometers away from you - I work at the College of the North Atlantic, here in Qatar.

I just posted a link to Kim Cofino's blog, I really have been enjoying it, and info about the collaboration she is looking for because it sounded similar to what you're doing QA.

I teach prep math to trades students entering the college. I am also very interested in technology and technology in the classroom.

Recent tech stuff I am working on:

Soon as I can get the software on my classroom computers I will be demoing Quizdom clickers with my students.

I also have been working on building/testing/researching on making an interactive whiteboard for $40. (It was developed by Johnny Lee.) I am trying to use the expert knowledge at the college here to improve upon what Johnny Lee has done. I've done it and it works great - but broke the pen over the summer. A few of us here are going to build a few more pens and pick up some Wiis to pilot it here at the college (unofficially).

Also, I am working on learning how to use Adobe Captivate to make interactive "PowerPoints" - is has SCORM capabilities - the possibilities are endless.

Note: I am jealous of the PD you had at QA's orientation for your teacher this year - I would have like to been there for it.

Hi Rebecca
I see from your profile you are at North Western University?
What year level classrooms are you looking for? What would be the commitment?
A group of us have just been to Learning 2.008 in Shanghai with Kim Cofino. Kim is also coming to Qatar Academy again in February to lead PD sessions for our senior school.

Look forward to hearing more about your ideas.
