E-Learning For Life

Fostering a professional learning community in Qatar and beyond

Share one book, idea or website that inspired you this week in your teaching.

I just finished reading 'Eat, Pray, Love' by Elizabeth Naert, you may have seen it on Oprah. Made me realise to slow down, enjoy this thing we call life, and to do so we must nourish our bodies, brains and hearts. Hence my huge smile after playing in the netball game against our students on Tuesday.

Yesterday, I was talking to Andrew Wright - the author who was here for PD on storywriting. He was arranging some pictures (calendar cutouts) on the board and I asked him the purpose. He told that these pictures can be used for writing a story. He also mentioned that in one of the schools he visited, all the classrooms had such pictures. It was a handy tool for the teachers. Anytime, they can ask the student to tell a story based on these pictures.

Thinking @2.0, I think it would be a good idea to start a wiki with pictures and ask the students to let their imagination flow.

Thanks Kirsten for thatring this blog post. Well, strangely enough, I have managed to read a 'non-tech' book recently and just finished it this week. It's called Ninteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. Yes, it's fiction but a good read as it is based on a school situation where a boy has spent a lifetime being bullied and turns into a mass murderer in the school..one of those shooting episodes. However what I found fascinating was how life could have been so much better for this person and the event may not have happened if just one teacher had been able to identify with him and support him amongst his peers. Food for thought.
