E-Learning For Life

Fostering a professional learning community in Qatar and beyond

Though I like browsing the internet and trying my luck at the new technologies, what I love bestest (a word frequently used by my kids – I correct them, they just ignore me) is to curl on the couch with a book. So for book lovers like me…..

We have added the following books to senior library professional collection. If you want them, please let me know ASAP. Already 2 books are loaned out.

A copy of these will be available in the primary and ECE libraries by next week.

This is great, Sudha... thanks. As well as reading Julie's name on page 501 of 'The World is Flat', she and her collaborators get a mention (though not by name) in the 'Did You Know' video http//dotsub.com/films/didyouknow20/index.php Visit her classroom to see authentic, exciting global collaboration in action!

Sudha, I am so excited these books are now in the school! Thank you for posting this on the Ning.

As further encouragement let me tell you a little more about each book.
1. Will Richardson is an English teacher who gave up the classroom for consulting 2 years ago. Hos book is rich with classroom experience and wonderful information about using Web 2.0 tools. Will is also a wonderful speaker and advocate for new ways of teaching.
2. Marc Prensky is the author who coined the phrase 'digital native, digital immigrants'. He owns a software company that makes games...but don't let that put you off. I once owned a copy of this book...but it went moldy in our shipment from Dhaka.....however it is an inspiring book!
3. Alan November is one of my all time favourite authors and speakers. He is quite amazing in his concept of what it means to be a 21st century educator. You have to read this one!
4. and 5. If you do not know the work of David Warlick you cannot call yourself a 21st century educator....it is really that simple. David is a wonderfully warm person (I had dinner with him at NECC last June) and a classroom teacher also turned consultant. His roots are in finding solutions and sharing his findings. He coined the phrase 'the changing shape of information' and is owner of the blog portal 'blogmeister'. I would love to have David come to Doha as he is patient and accessible and understanding.....you have to read his books!
6. Dan Pink is promoting creativity as the new way to learn..and being a right brain person I tend to agree...read the book and see what you think. It has had mixed reviews but I think it is spot on......
7. Well, I apologize for being a little biased here, but as I was saying to Tom the other day.........Seriously, please turn to page 501 and read about our Flat Classroom Project and how if you are not doing it then it is just not happening....so come on, get inspired and do something!
