Julie Lindsay Introducing the Horizon Project 2008 to Qatar Academy

The Ning is a place for us as teachers to relate our pedagogical successes (and near misses) with our colleagues. This serves two main purposes: to share ideas, thoughts and reflections and foster an informed and interactive online learning community; to inform latest classroom applications and adventures in 21st century learning so that others may also know what is going on in the school (and the world) and make decisions as to whether all or part of the practice can be transferre… Continue

Suzanne Fletcher Visiting Schools in Bangkok

My first ever blog. Jannie K and I were lucky enough to have the opportunity to go to Bangkok early (prior to the NESA conference) to visit two schools. International School of Bangkok (ISB) and Bangkok Patana. The purpose of these visits was to observe ISB and Patana's use of teachnology in the classroom. ISB have a laptop program and Patana do not, apart from this difference, their use and the support they receive for the technology is very similar. I am in the process of preparing a document… Continue

Peter Westall With a Vengeance

I should HATE Technology ...with a vengeance! "It's all about SHOPPING!" I said in the year 19-something...and until recently I haven't changed that opinion. "Aha!" the Evangelists will say...."I knew he would convert.' Pardon the Apostasy, but at the moment I feel that the shopping catalogue is not looking so attractive and I have decided to stick with what does the job - more than adequately! (That's a reference to an Apple Rant /Vista Rant and a salutation to E-bay where I do some shopping,… Continue

The February issue of School Library Journal selected www.ourstories.org as site of the month. This site is an online story sharing jointly founded by UNICEF, One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) and Google. Peter Westall A quaint ol' Cornish town...

Out for a "Boys Behaving Badly" evening when I had to put the glass down and actually go silent for a minute. "We're going on a holiday and to have a look at some schools in Cornwall. It would be nice to find a quiet, little village school away from all the hassles and administrative interference etc etc.." I blinked and wondered if such an idyllic place existed anymore - I hoped not. Philip Roberts Yet more adventures in VoiceThreading

Ok, so by now you'll have realised that I'm seeing some potential in this VoiceThread thing. In terms of student responses to it, as with any new resource, their enthusiasm may simply be a reaction to its novelty. One thing's for sure - the ease of use and simplicity of the concept mean that it's the kind of ICT that anyone can quickly start using with any grade level. As important is the fact that an audio visual representation of concepts (and of students' understanding) can be useful to any… Continue

It is just so much easier to have a fabulous, albeit chaotic, enthusiastic time in my classroom so WHY did I feel I have to go and BLAB nonsense on a site where everyone is Louis Vuitton....that just popped in my head because I was carrying a ridiculous little box with microcomputers in it as I was leaving the school today and a member of the Parent Group gave me a bit of a "dig! Philip Roberts Further adventures in VoiceThreading

After sharing my first VoiceThread with the intended audience (my Grade 11 Biologists one or two felt confident enough to leave text comments while others made largely irrelevant noises into their microphones), I decided to embark on a sequel. Sam Liberto ASB Unplugged-Mumbai-Final Thoughts

After 4 days and many workshops at ASB Unplugged, one inescapable direction emerges. Movement toward a one to one computing environment is inevitable and it’s only a question of "how long" and not "if"it should happen. Julie Lindsay Professional Learning Community importance

I am in another session at ASB Unplugged where Scott McLeod and David Quinn are taking about data driven decision making.
