Three things about me as an educator:
I am currently Tech Director at NIST - moving to be the New Technology Adviser for the English Schools Foundation in HK in August.

I am committed to connected, collaborative learning powered by Technology.

I believe that learning technology (so that we can use technology to learn) is like learning a language - one hour a week in a computer lab won’t work – we need total immersion. At that point you move beyond integrating technology as a conscious act to ….

Well Paul I will be in Hong Kong on holiday the week starting June 23 prior to going to NECC in San Antonio.
I will also be in Shanghai next September presenting at Learning 2.008. I am sure we will catch up in the near future. Meanwhile we can communicate via the Ning.
Just to let you know I was Head of Technology at International School Dhaka for 4 years and while there established a 1:1 laptop program for grades 9-12 as well as a handheld (Palm) program in Grades 6-8. Mobile and ubiquitous is the only way to go and there is a sense of urgency to encouraging and pushing QA to move in that direction. Until the computers are in the hands of the learners when needed we will not see a real change in pedagogy and learning modes. It is a bit of a catch 22 in many respects. On one hand we want to 'go slow' and develop teacher awareness and skill with PD, however on the other hand the PD is useless unless the teacher is facing a class full of students who have laptops/mobile computers in their hands all the time.

Hi Paul

Great to see you join our school Ning. Qatar Academy is moving towards a 1:1 mobile computing program and have looked at your work at NIST with much interest. Next year all teachers will have laptops and most in the Primary school will have Tablet PCs. I hope we can interact with you as we move along the road of 'total immersion'.
